5 Things to Know: February 11, 2021

Dear [subscriber:firstname | default:reader],

My Executive Corner theme this week is transformation due to the COVID-related challenges we all face. Find it at https://bit.ly/3aZoCTV. And as promised, here is the much shorter version of our weekly 5 Things newsletter!

More from WACD

  • Be sure to check out Jim Brown's update on the WACD Plant Materials Center this week. Sales are almost up to our projections. Find it at https://bit.ly/2Z88iLh
  • The new Hub site also categorizes articles to make it easier to scan the content you want to see. For example, check out the Advocacy category at https://bit.ly/WACDAdvocacy
  • Many people in our Washington State conservation community attended the NACD annual meeting this year. That meeting culminated on Wednesday with the installation of Benton CD Supervisor Michael Crowder as the NACD President. Michael's heartfelt commentary promises growth moments for all of us as he steers the NACD ship forward.
  • Speaking of the NACD annual meeting, WACD was pleased to provide 27 scholarships to people in our community. Washington State was well represented!
  • Some recent feedback took us to task for not being at every conservation district board meeting. As you can imagine, WACD Executive Office staff remain very busy, particularly while the Legislature is in town. Nevertheless, we have found time to attend many conservation district board meetings over the past several weeks. We attend districts meetings to share information and to listen for issues that concern our members. If we haven't visited your district board meeting recently, rest assured we will get there. (By the way, it is a great help if your district sends us your meeting notice or a calendar invite!) Districts recently visited: Asotin, Columbia, Ferry, Lincoln, Palouse, Palouse-Rock Lake, Pend Oreille, Pomeroy, Spokane, Stevens County, and Walla Walla County. We also attended the Puget Sound Conservation District Caucus meeting. Coming up next week are Pine Creek and Whitman.
  • The four items that WACD donated in support of the National Conservation Foundation online auction received plenty of attention. WACD contributed four items: Deluxe Frasier River Salmon Gift Pack, Willapa Valley Lavender Farm Love Spa Box, Hand Warmer Mug, and Bunnies By The Bay - Camp Cricket set.
