5 Things to Know: February 18, 2021

Dear [subscriber:firstname | default:reader],

My Executive Corner column this week is about WACD serving whole districts because it takes everyone pulling together to succeed. I hope you enjoy reading about why we are "all in" when it comes to conservation district success.

1. Many bills still alive after policy cutoff

Monday’s policy cutoff acts like a wheat separator in a combine. If that sounds like an interesting start, read the short article on the current legislative flavor at: https://bit.ly/2ZtNxtD

2. Last call: volunteer for DEI, elections committees

Two more days to volunteer for important committee work: https://bit.ly/3jZR5x7

3. New District Directory...and bad emails!

We've published an updated District Directory. Find it here: https://bit.ly/3jYwtVZ

However, we've put the new Directory behind a password because of a recent spate of potentially harmful emails received by members. While we don't believe that our member emails were collected from the Directory, we can better protect our members by securing the Directory.

Contact WACD Executive Office staff if you don't have the password we've been using to secure some parts of the website.

4. PMC update

One worker is out due to coronavirus quarantine. The PMC lost some harvest time due to snow and freezing. Five large plant orders are being prepared for shipment. Find the latest Plant Materials Center update at: https://bit.ly/3drV6cG

5. Welcome to Bill and Jon

We extend a warm welcome to two new WACD Board members: Bill Blake and Jon Birnbaum.
  • Bill Blake (Skagit CD) joins the WACD Board by becoming the new WADE President.
  • Jon Birnbaum (Stevens County CD) was selected by the Northeast Area districts to replace Mike Mumford (Pend Oreille CD) as one of two NE Area Directors.

More from WACD

  • The new Hub site continues to grow. Embedded in the site are bookmarks (the "reading list") we publish throughout the week. Also embedded are up-to-date links we find in news media that mention Washington State conservation districts. Quick links to partners are on the Hub home page. The website is installable as an app on your smartphone, and if you do that, you'll be able to opt into receiving push notifications of new articles. And more is coming so please make the Hub a regular stop as you wander the web.
  • We have had some technological challenges in moving content from our public site to the Hub. That work continues. Earlier this week, we successfully migrated the newsletter system to the Hub. Find the newsletter archive at: https://bit.ly/3aSpF8i

It's important to support partners!

Find our list of partners at https://bit.ly/WACDPartners.
  • Friends of NACD Your contributions provide funding for technical assistance grants to conservation districts.
  • Washington Conservation Society WCS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization so your contributions are tax-deductible. If you make purchases through Amazon Smile, a portion of your purchases goes to WCS in support of their programs and initiatives.

We appreciate our great sponsors

Many thanks to our generous sponsors for helping us support Washington State's conservation districts. Find links to these organizations at http://bit.ly/WACDSponsors.
